In today's "post COVID-19 era," the world is buzzing with discussions about health—physical health, mental health, and spiritual well-being. However, many folks who aspire to make a lifestyle change find themselves at a crossroads. They yearn for a transformation but often feel overwhelmed by external pressures, choice paralysis, and unrealistic comparisons with others. This predicament is not unique to the hunting world; it permeates the broader outdoor community as well.

While outdoor enthusiasts are generally some of the most kind-hearted and compassionate people, the prospect of diving into this world can still be intimidating. Fear not! In this article, I'm here to guide you through four essential steps to help you venture outdoors and connect with nature.

1. Don't Fret Over Gear

In today's digital age, Instagram bombards us with enticing product advertisements tailored to our interests and browsing history. I personally can't watch ten minutes of YouTube without encountering an ad for the latest and greatest outdoor gear. While these ads may be enticing, they can create the false impression that you absolutely need these specialized shoes or that high-tech jacket to get started.

In reality, all you need to begin your outdoor exploration is the basics: a comfortable pair of sneakers and athletic clothing. You don't have to start barefoot (although it's possible) – just step outside with what you have. Whether it's hiking, rock climbing, strolling on the beach, or a walk through your local park, the key is to breathe in the fresh air and embrace the experience.

2. Choose Your Ideal Location

The beauty of outdoor adventures lies in their diversity. You can choose the level of depth that suits you best. Some, like me, relish the solitude of the wilderness, where wildlife sightings surpass encounters with fellow humans. Others prefer community parks and well-paved walking trails, like my girlfriend. The key is to select an environment that aligns with your comfort and enjoyment.

Finding the perfect spot is easier than you might think. Google Earth is a valuable tool for researching hiking trails and evaluating their terrain, steepness, and foliage. While there are other software options available, keeping it simple and exploring on your own can lead to the discovery of your new favorite picnic spot!

3. Be Prepared

Preparing for outdoor adventures is akin to getting ready for any other part of your day. Consider the weather—will it be sunny or rainy? Gauge the distance from your starting point to your destination. Addressing these factors beforehand boosts your confidence and enjoyment.

Preparation ensures you're equipped for any scenario. Always remember: preparedness breeds confidence. So, be ready, and relish your adventure. I guarantee it'll be far more enjoyable that way.

4. Take the Plunge

You've done the groundwork. You're dressed appropriately, you know your destination, you're aware of the weather forecast, and you have a plan for your time outdoors. Now, go out there and make the most of it!

Engaging with nature and staying active are priceless contributors to your overall health and well-being. It elevates your happiness and enhances your connection with the environment. As you step away from the daily grind, you'll notice that the once-pressing responsibilities tend to fade into distant memories after just a few hours in the great outdoors. Trust me, those so-called urgent tasks can wait.

What's even more remarkable is that as you spend more time disconnected from modern life, these responsibilities become less and less demanding. Experiencing extended periods away from the hustle and bustle is truly transformative. This, my friends, is the essence of our mission—to get people outside and rekindle what modern society has left behind.

Remember, it all begins with a simple walk. Have a blast, take care, and savor the wonders that this country has to offer.
